Student Services offers a skill building advisory, which is a flexible, student-choice support space designed to help students build practical skills for school success and overall well-being. Students may sign up week to week (or request a drop-in on a day basis) based on their needs, interests, or goals. Each advisory combines skill instruction and guided practice with counseling staff.
All advisories are supportive, skills-based, and open to students who want to learn, practice, or simply talk.
Executive Functioning Skills: Mondays & Wednesdays
This advisory focuses on building the skills students need to manage school demands more independently. Topics and activities may include:
Organization and materials management
Planning and time management
Breaking down assignments and long-term projects
Study habits and test preparation
Self-advocacy and asking for help
Students can work on real assignments, practice strategies, and receive individualized support.
Coping Skills & Mindfulness: Tuesdays
This advisory supports emotional regulation, stress management, and self-awareness. Activities may include:
Coping strategies for stress, anxiety, and frustration
Mindfulness, grounding, and relaxation techniques
Identifying emotions and responses
Building resilience and distress tolerance
Students may participate in activities, practice skills, or use the time to talk with a counselor in a supportive setting.
Friendship Help & Social Skills: Thursdays
This advisory is designed to support healthy peer relationships and communication. Topics may include:
Friendship skills and social problem-solving
Conflict resolution and communication strategies
Perspective-taking and empathy
Mediation and support navigating peer concerns
Students can learn skills or request support with peer situations.
