Once a student is enrolled in the Mathnasium@home program, it is important that we spend the time to orient the student to the Mathnasium@home platform. This guide reviews how to complete an orientation!
Before executing an online orientation, you will need to do the following:
Schedule a time that works for everyone to do an initial orientation
This orientation can be done on the student's first day ONLY if that time is available on the @home Appointment+ schedule
Otherwise, the orientation can be scheduled for anytime before the student's first online session
Let them know if the student is only working online or if they are hybrid
Give a quick summary of the situation with the student
If you have not already done so, make sure to set up the student's account through the VCP admin portal!
To do so, you can follow the Adding Students to Mathnasium@home guide listed above in Resources
Students returning to the platform may already have their account created
You can check those details on the VCP Admin page under Users
Find the student's User Account in VCP by using the search bar in User Management
Take note of the student's User ID and copy their temporary password using the clipboard icon (shown below)
Send an email to the student's guardian (contact info found in Radius) and include the student's Username and Password so they are able to login
If you have not already done so, make sure to add the student's work to their Digi-Decks in VCP
You may use the Uploading Student Work to @home guide listed above in Resources
You can visit the student's depository page to make sure work has been uploaded successfully
VCP Admin -> Depository -> Student -> *Search Student Name*
Add a new digi-deck to the student's depository in VCP
Name the deck "[Student's Name] Orientation Page"
If prompted, set the deck as active digi-deck
Otherwise, go to the students resourses and click the yellow star to set as active
Open the student's Orientation Page digi-deck
Click the "EDIT" button in the top right
Under "Select a PDF", type "Online Student Code of Conduct" and add click ADD
Repeat the last steps to also add the "Rewards Cabinet" pdf
Check and see if the student is able to connect to the VCP platform
If they are, then use the Door icon to connect to them directly
If they do not show up, give the parent a call and help troubleshoot through the process
They should be able to navigate to the login through your center's Parent Portal
Student should have their mic and webcam on throughout the entirety of their @home session
Reiterating this to the student/parent helps set that expectation so the online instructors can manage things easier
Run them through the steps to message their instructor
Remind them to message their instructor anytime they need anything
They also need to reach out to their instructor if they are going to be stepping away from the computer
Make sure the student is aware on how to use these tools:
Text box
Pencil
Shapes
Etc.
Using the student's Orientation Page, review the Online Student Code of Conduct
Have the student use the whitboard tools to fill out and sign the page
Locate the Rewards Cabinet pdf (second page of Orientation Page)
Talk to them about the rewards and how they work
Students receive stamps/cards during work online
They can redeem 15 cards in order to have an item delivered to them
They need to talk with their instructor when they are ready to redeem stamps for rewards
Connect with one of the instructors working on the platform to let them know that this student is ready to start their session
You can also use the chat function to send a message to the instructor
However, chat usage is buggy, so make sure the instructor responds before leaving
