Hello, I am Cole Starrett. I am a graduate level student at TWU in Chemistry. I graduated from UNT in 2022, and performed research with Dr. Mohammad Omary. Before returning for secondary education, I worked for the DEA as a benchtop chemist. While I was there I realized I have a passion for R&D and the problems associated with trial and error. I believe that success is a path laid out by trying, failing, and then succeeding. I am extremely happy to join the Dr. Han group and to work on novel synthesis and molecule tailoring.
Originally a New Mexican, I have been fortunate to travel and live extensively in both Colorado and Texas, growing up hiking, skiing, and enjoying the outdoors. I received my B.S. in Chemistry from UTD in 2020 and have been working as a chemist ever since. I was one of four plant chemists at Sherwin Williams’s largest paint factory, responsible for quality control on more than a million gallons of paint per week. My focus was on problem solving and process improvement. I recently joined the TWU staff, pursuing my master’s degree in chemistry, and plan to continue on to my Ph.D. Chemistry has been a lifelong passion, and I look forward to future research opportunities..
Hello I’m Ireland LaBass, I’m currently a 2nd year undergraduate Biochemistry student at Texas Woman’s University, soon I hope to be in the accelerated masters program for MS in Chemistry. In the future I hope to get my PhD in Chemistry and work as a laboratory research scientist. I enjoy Dr. Han’s group because I learn a lot of information, especially different techniques in the lab and the many applications of porphyrins and synthesis. In my spare time I enjoy hanging out with my friends, drawing, coding, and going to concerts.
