Canvas Course Roles

Roles in Canvas are managed and updated through feeds provided by Colleague daily. The Teacher role is identified as the Instructor of Record for a course, while Students are enrolled in a course through the Registrar.

There are additional course roles in Canvas. These roles are required to complete FERPA training prior to obtaining access to the courses they are assigned to in Canvas. Teachers can add additional users with Teacher, TA, Non-Grading TA, Peer Tutor, Designer, and Observer roles into the course. Use the Login ID (TWU Username) option to add users to a course. The Instructor of Record needs to be aware of the Intellectual Property Policy. Only add users as Teachers in your Canvas course if you agree to give these individuals permission to access and reuse your course materials.

How do I add users to a course?

A Service Provider, either an interpreter or a Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART) writer, provides accommodations for a student in an academic course. CART is a stenotype machine, notebook computer and real-time software that instantly translates spoken language into text which can be displayed on a display system for students that require this service. Contact Disability Services for Students for additional information.
