I’m an English teacher from South Africa, currently living in Taiwan. I love helping students feel confident, curious, and excited about learning English. Teaching has taken me to Hong Kong, mainland China, and now Taiwan—each place has made me grow as a teacher and as a person.
I’ve taught English across different ages and learning environments.
Hong Kong
Teaching in Hong Kong challenged me to design lessons that balanced creativity with academic expectations. I learned how to support large, diverse classrooms while building strong rapport with students. This experience shaped my understanding of how meaningful encouragement can transform a learner’s confidence.
Mainland China
Working in Mainland China taught me the value of adapting quickly to different learning styles and energy levels. I developed engaging activities that kept students motivated during evening and weekend classes. It strengthened my ability to deliver fast-paced, results-driven lessons with warmth and consistency.
Online
Teaching online helped me refine my clarity, pacing, and ability to connect through a screen. I learnt how to guide shy or nervous learners using patience, encouragement, and simple explanations. The experience showed me that meaningful learning can happen anywhere when the teacher is present and supportive.
I use games, songs, and storytelling in a positive, English-only classroom, encouraging students to try and learn from mistakes. I build confidence step by step, using clear routines and simple explanations, while bringing culture and real-life examples into each lesson. Every student can shine when they feel supported and confident.
A 120-hour TEFL certificate trains teachers to teach English to non-native speakers. It taught me practical skills for lesson planning, classroom management, and explaining language clearly. This qualification helps me create engaging, structured lessons that support different learners.
A degree in financial accounting strengthened my analytical thinking and attention to detail. It taught me how to explain complex ideas simply and logically. These skills help me plan organized lessons and guide students with clarity and patience.
I am currently working toward a PGCE to build a stronger foundation in teaching. This process is helping me connect what I know from experience with deeper educational principles. It motivates me to teach with more clarity, purpose, and confidence. I see it as an important step in becoming the best teacher I can be.
I’m excited to be in Taiwan because the people are warm, the culture is beautiful, and the students are eager to learn. I remember having bubble tea for the first time in Hong Kong, and I’m happy to enjoy it again here in Taiwan. The kindness I’ve received makes me feel welcome every day. I look forward to bringing creativity, dedication, and heart into my teaching. Taiwan already feels like a special place to grow and learn together with my students. Every day here reminds me why I love being a teacher.
