Some students show advanced reasoning skills. Others demonstrate exceptional creativity, leadership, problem-solving, or deep understanding in specific content areas. Our Gifted and Talented program is designed to recognize and nurture these strengths so students can grow, stay engaged, and reach their full potential.
Gifted students are those who demonstrate high levels of ability or achievement compared to their peers and who benefit from learning experiences that go beyond the general curriculum.
According to the National Association for Gifted Children, gifted individuals show outstanding levels of aptitude or achievement in one or more domains. Similarly, the New Jersey Department of Education defines gifted students as those who demonstrate high levels of ability when compared to their chronological peers and who require instructional modifications to achieve in line with their capabilities.
In short, giftedness is not about being “better” or “ahead.” It is about learning differently and needing opportunities that challenge, inspire, and support continued growth.
In Township of Union, we are committed to:
Identifying students with advanced learning needs using multiple measures
Providing appropriately differentiated instruction and enrichment opportunities
Supporting intellectual, creative, and social-emotional development
Ensuring equity and access across all schools
Our goal is to create learning experiences that allow gifted and high-potential students to thrive while honoring the unique strengths they bring to the classroom.
