Understanding Section 504 in New Jersey
Section 504 ensures that students with disabilities have access to a free, appropriate education and prohibits discrimination.
A student may qualify for a 504 plan if they have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity.
Unlike an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), a 504 plan provides accomodations and does not require specialized instruction.
