Vox-One

Hello and welcome

      In 2022, I decided to give the Vox-In moniker to the smallest group of wonderful, high expectation, high achieving students. this group of people don't come along every year. 

    This particular year 4 of the top singers from Rio N.Y.N. wanted to do more. They asked if they could come in during Zero Period and rehearse, 5 days a week. I said sure. (Really, kids want to come in and work before school starts?!)
    I was introduced to Vocal Jazz, a new world, at Shasta College by Deborah Devine, that has become a passion and part of my life. I met Phil Mattson, Michele Weir, and Jason Alex Smith while I was learning to sing jazz.  At Shasta College we were named 'nightwind and then she went over to Enterprise High School and named her top group TBA.

   This ensemble will be limited to 6 +/- singers.  This ensemble is an audition and director's discretion  only group. I don't see this group emerging more than a couple times a decade.

We will perform at all home concerts (Spring and Pops Concerts). These students will be performing at the District Festival Of The Arts as part of the District Choir and in the prelim music outside the concert hall. This ensemble will perform in the L.A. Swing Tour (Fullerton/Oceanside and MITP Anaheim) and Spring Tour. We perform with a jazz combo and/or rhythm tracks. 

      We will be studying music & Jazz fundamentals. We will be focusing on learning about tight harmonies, basic jazz  vocal techniques, beginning to intermediate vocal improv techniques, and beginning jazz theory. We will be performing difficulty level 1.5 to level 3 charts from contemporary arrangers such as Jeremy Fox, Roger Emerson, Kerry Marsh, Kirby Shaw, Craig Murray, Phil Mattson, Steve Zegree, Michele Weir and others.

We will be performing  at the Fullerton College Jazz Festival, Heritage Music Festival - Anaheim, Music In The Parks - Vallejo Music Festival. The set list is:
