The objective of Curriculum Support 12 is to learn math, writing, and reading strategies. Transition skills are a priority. This course is not a Study Hall or a place solely designed for homework or project completion. On average, 20 minutes will be provided for students to work on individual assignments and/or receive instruction on an individual basis.
To achieve success in all content area classes
To develop and reinforce study and organizational skills
To promote student responsibility and personal life skills
To use information retrieving strategies when locating materials and gathering information
Treat yourself and others with respect.
Student is to be on time, seated and ready for class when the tardy bell rings.
Always come prepared for class with chromebook.
Drinks must have a twist cap (water bottle, sports drink bottle). No food is allowed.
The teacher dismisses the class, not the bell.
Missing class excessively for any reason will most likely result in failing the course. Although students may have excused absences, and student grades are not determined by attendance, a pattern of missing class even once or twice a week will make it difficult for students to successfully learn and apply the skills/concepts assessed in summative assignments. Because absent students miss the opportunity to participate and contribute during class and small group discussions and interactions with classmates, they will lose their 4P points (see below) for every unexcused absence. In addition, absent students miss out on instruction and as a result may need to come in for additional tutoring in order to be able to complete assignments with the necessary depth and quality. (Nicolls, 2018)
Students are allowed to use passes to go to the restroom. However, students who are gone for an extended period of time, go somewhere other than the restroom, interrupt other classes, etc., will lose the opportunity to use a pass.
*Policy may change during Phase 2 of hybrid instruction due to Sacramento County Health Department recommendations or district mandate.
The priority of this course is to prepare students for college and the workforce. As a result we have the same expectations for academic honesty as our local community college, American River College.
"Plagiarism is representing the work of another person as one's own work and submitting it to fulfill the academic requirements of the course. Examples:
Submitting a written paper purchased or obtained from an outside source.
Representing another's creation (painting, photo, music composition, computer program, etc.) as your own product and work.
Incorporating words, passages, ideas of another person's writing without citing appropriate credit or acknowledgement and representing it as your own.
Duplicating any previous academic work from another and then submitting them as your own for academic credit.
Consequences of academic dishonesty
Academic sanctions and penalties may be applied in cases of academic dishonesty depending on the seriousness of the infraction and those grading guidelines specified by the instructor of the class. You may:
Receive a failing grade on a test, paper, or examination.
Have your course grade lowered or possibly fail the course."
