I did not finish my college education immediately after high school. I got married, had kids, then went back to school. I wanted to finish college before my oldest started kindergarten. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Organizational Behavior from the University of the Pacific in 2002, 3 months before my oldest started school. But I loved spending time with my kids and did not go to work right away.
I started working in education not as a teacher but as a parent. When my children were young I volunteered frequently at their school. As a stay at home mom, it came naturally to me. My son's teacher recommended that I get a job on campus since I was there ALL THE TIME. đŸ˜„
I worked in mainly classified positions and was not using my degree. A principal I worked with suggested that I just get my teaching credential. I had to agree that it was a good idea. That was a lifetime ago.
I began working at Grant Union High School in 2008, the year Grant won the State Championship for football. I quickly fell in love with the school. Not only did I love the school but so did my sons. My oldest started attending Grant in 2011. Peter played football, track, and was a part of ROTC. Peter also enjoyed martial arts with Mr. G. He graduated as a part of the Class of 2015.
Both boys were involved in a special student filmed Star Wars Parody, with my oldest playing the role of the Sub and my youngest as the voice of "yoda" and a custodian storm trooper.
My son Dominic followed his brother to Grant. He graduated in 2017 and was very active in the ARTS Academy and also loved track and martial arts.
In 2017, I had the honor of informally adopting my son's wonderful girlfriend. She graduated from Options for Youth, 6 months after she came to live with me, while my son has been stationed overseas. Sierra only attended Grant for 2 years but remains a Pacer at heart.
