*HOMEWORK: My philosophy on homework is to have students read every night, practice math facts. These are standard assignments that will remain the same all year.
Your child should read books at their independent reading level DAILY for at least 20 minutes. Please have your child read daily and discuss what they are reading. This will help their reading comprehension.
Help your child become more responsible with doing their homework. Your child will receive and "effort" grade for completion of homework on the report card.
**Students on Quarantine: their homework will be done independently on their own, using websites that are used in class.**
*SPELLING: Fourth graders are given weekly spelling tests. These words come from the ELA Journeys reading program and are used to target specific sound spelling patterns that are explicitly being taught throughout the week. The new words go home each week on Monday and they are tested on them on Friday.
*WEDNESDAY FOLDERS: Pioneer students will bring home a blue Pioneer Wednesday Folder every Wednesday afternoon. Inside are very important papers from the school or district office. Please take out all the enclosed papers, read them, and bring the folder back the next day.
*BIRTHDAYS: We will celebrate birthdays in a special way virtually during Distance Learning.
NOTE: If your child would like to celebrate his/her birthday in class, please give me at least 24 hours notice. Due to health and safety regulations, any treats provided MUST be in a sealed store-bought container. We also have 32 students in our class (please make sure there's enough.) Please contact me about allergies or any additional questions. Thank you.
*GRADING POLICY: Assessments, writing, and other major assignments will be graded according to the 4th grade Common Core Standards. This also correlates with the grading system shown on the report cards.
A: Advanced (above grade level) >>>>> 90% & above
B: Proficient (at grade level) >>>>> 80% - 89%
C: Basic (almost at grade level) >>>>> 70% - 79%
D: Below Basic (below grade level) >>>> 60% - 69%
F: Far Below Basic (far below grade level) >>>>> 59% & below
