SELFCARE Tips

You matter, please take care of yourself!

1. Set "office" hours." Weither it's Virtual or in person try to keep specific work times. Set specific times by which you will sign on and off your email and computer, similar to coming in and leaving school.

2. Have a routine. Routines help us to to keep a sense of order and calm. tick to a routine that is familiar to you. Don't forget to incorporate snack breaks, stretch breaks, opportunities to practice gratitude, and get breaths of fresh air. Routines help to keep a sense of calm and order.

3. Practice Mindfulness. Find an app that works for you (HeadSpace, Calm, Insight Timer Youtube videos). Take 3 deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Take a moment to pause and notice at least 2 different sounds around you.

4. Have a dedicated workspace. Create a space that is comfortable to you but still allows you to be productive. Setting a specific space where you may complete work signals to your brain that it's time to work and signals the end of work when you leave.

5. End your work day with something purposeful. Take a few stretches away from your computer. Make a cup of juice, tea, or something yummy. Practice positive self-talk and tell yourself one thing you are proud of today.

6. Take breaks during the day. It may be helpful to schedule in a walk around the neighborhood or a reminder to take 3 deep breaths.

7. Make some healthy meals. Nutrition is key to our immune system and our overall mood!

8. Don't get cooped up. Go outside. If you can sit outside while you do work, that's great too! Get some sunshine, if possible.

9. Have a Check- In Buddy. Whether it is a family member, another teacher, or someone you feel safe with, set a time to check-in or video-chat. This may help to mitigate feelings of isolation and loneliness.

10. Get rest! Working from home may impact sleep patterns. Try to keep a similar, regular sleep schedule. The Calm App has great stories and there are many sleep podcasts that you may download.
