Pre-Calculus

Grades: 10-12 Length/Credits: Full Year (1.0 credit) Prerequisites: Algebra II

A foundational course for future advanced math. It includes a review and deepening of algebraic knowledge, right triangle, and unit circle trigonometry, matrices and systems of equations, and a basic Calculus unit introducing derivative and integral Calculus in preparation for CIS Calculus. Students who plan to take CIS Calculus and beyond should sign up for Pre-Calculus.

Statistics

Grades: 11-12 Length/Credits: Full Year (1.0 credit) Prerequisites: Algebra II

Statistics is the science and art of data and inference. The precision and abstract nature of mathematics are replaced by uncertainty and intuition in Statistics. Students will learn to interpret data, analyze how different real-world variables affect each other, how data is collected, and probability theory. Statistics is focused primarily on the interpretation of data to reinforce or deny a hypothesis. Any student who is interested in pursuing (but not limited to) Psychology, Sociology, Business, Marketing, Education, or the Sciences would benefit from taking Statistics.

CIS CSE Calculus I (MATH 1371)

Grades: 11-12 Length/Credits: Full Year (1.0 credit) Prerequisites: B or above in Precalculus or Teacher Approval

Students will identify, define, and solve problems, locate and critically evaluate information, master a body of knowledge and mode of inquiry, and communicate effectively. Specifically, students will develop these skills in the context of differential and integral calculus, applying the techniques of calculus to investigate how quantities change. These quantities are modeled by functions, including polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. Calculus is a towering achievement of human thought, worthy of study in its own right, but it is also the essential language of technical applications, including economics, physics, biology, psychology... any pursuit in which changing quantities are analyzed.

AP Calculus BC

Grades: 12 Length/Credits: Full Year (1.0 credit) Prerequisites: CIS Calculus

AP Calculus BC is an introductory college-level calculus course. Students cultivate their understanding of differential and integral calculus through engaging with real-world problems represented graphically, numerically, analytically, and verbally and using definitions and theorems to build arguments and justify conclusions as they explore concepts like change, limits, and the analysis of functions.
