Community science is an opportunity for community members (no scientific background necessary) to participate in scientific research and data collection. This collaboration between the public and scientists helps to gather more data from a larger survey area, bring people together, and further everyone's knowledge about the world around us.
Community science participants will gain valuable experience in conservation and data collection. The Oak Glen Preserve and nearby TWC properties have a number of conservation efforts in progress; for the public, this is an opportunity to pursue or explore passions in science and data collection. Participants will conduct surveys in our garden venues, tracking data pertaining to the status of monarchs in Oak Glen, including photo taking and classification. Volunteers will be asked to attend at least 4 surveys which are held every other Thursday during the season. Previous experience in data collecting/management is encouraged but not required, as training will be provided.
