Goal #1 "My professional growth goal for this school year is to ensure there is differentiation within my lessons. This includes creating multiple levels to a variety of skills and planning build up lessons to ensure students that are exceeding the expectations can continue their growth while other can still focus on meeting the expectations."
Beyond Induction my goal is continue developing my lessons plans to meet the needs of all learners including SDC, EL and students with behavioral needs. I have identified this as a need because now that I have had the chance to stay at one site and get to know one set of students, I see how different each one of these students are and how they interact with the lessons in such different ways.
In order to make this goal a reality, I will carefully plan each lesson with 3 levels. One for students who exceed the learning goal, one for students who are meeting the goal and one for students who are working to meet the goal. I can also ensure I have constant communication with SDC and EL teachers to ensure we are on the same page about student needs.
I can measure whether or not I am reaching this goal by assessing students. If more and more students are meeting and exceeding the learning goals, I will know that providing differentiation in the lesson plan is beneficial to student success.
In order to remain a connected educator, I can make sure to always attend PLC meetings to gain knowledge from my peers. In my opinion, remaining connected goes hand in hand with always growing in my profession. I can frequently attend PE workshops and professional developments.
In order to sustain my passion for teaching without feeling overwhelmed and burnt out, I think it is so important to maintain good time management and work life balance. Something I do to keep my anxiety levels down and energy levels high, is exercise daily, and get plenty of sleep. I love being involved in my school but majority of the time I try to get all work done during contract hours. This means during prep periods I am still hard at work rather than taking a "break". This ensures a good work to life balance.
My advice to teachers entering the profession is to utilize as much resources as possible. My peers in the PE department were one of the biggest tools for me as a new teacher. I think something very crucial would be to establish your classroom management right away and stick to it the whole year. This includes your routines and expectations. The consistency will go a long way for you. Something I often reminded myself of as a PE teacher was at the end of the day our job truly is so FUN. I like to pick a few things in my day that would not have happened if I was not a PE teacher. Some exxamples would be not getting to enjoy the sunshine and birds chirping or getting to help students find a new skilll that they are really good at.
