RE Resources
YEAR TWO
YEAR TWO
All components of the Resident Educator Program are presented below. You can access all materials by clicking on the links for those resources. At the end of the school year mentors / facilitators will complete and submit the Collaborative Log [ Click here ] at the end of the school year.
There are regular meeting throughout the year. This is a time for Resident Educators and New Employees to come together and learn about the important issues that will affect your classroom. The meeting dates, locations, times, and agendas are found on the NE Resources page [ Click here ].
Goals for August and September
The mentoring process begins right away with the shared Collaborative Log (link above and at the bottom of this page). The mentor will present the program standards and review the Educator Code of Conduct.
The Resident Educator will complete the Self-Assessment (available on the OTES site) and share the information with the mentor.
Conversations should focus on classroom management and establishing routines. The learning environment will be different for every Resident Educator, so these conversations should always occur in the RE's classroom.
Depending on the schedule in your building, your grade level(s), and changes in requirements, discuss the building and department procedures regarding MAP testing. Once available a brief overview of how to read the score report will help prepare the RE for future meetings with departments.
Goals for October
Typically in October we have our first round of parent-teacher conferences. This is the perfect time for the mentor to discuss some of the strategies used with talking to parents/guardians.
By the end of the month the mentor and RE should have the Focused Mentoring 2: Analyzing Assessments [ Click here ] completed. Once the task is complete the mentor will provide the Program Coordinator with an update on the RE's progress.
Goals for November and December
November is observation month. The RE will most likely be observed by the principal and receive feedback thorough OTES. The mentor should be available to discuss the results and help make suggestions to follow the recommendations from the principal.
The RE should take the notes from the OTES observation and complete a reciprocal observation - the RE will observe a class period taught by the mentor. They can then meet to discuss which areas need focus in the future and determine if further observation would be beneficial.
Goal for January and February
In September the Resident Educator completed the Self-Assessment. The mentor and RE should review that document together and update it as necessary.
Goals for March and April
The RE will most likely be observed by the principal and receive feedback thorough OTES. The mentor should be available to discuss the results and help make suggestions to follow the recommendations from the principal.
The mentor and RE should collaboratively complete the Progress Review document [ Click here ].
Depending on the schedule in your building, your grade level(s), and changes in requirements, discuss the building and department procedures regarding AIR testing.
When appropriate for your building during April or May discuss the end-of-year procedures, including exams, grade submission, checkout protocols, and room preparation.
Goals for May
As the end of the year approaches the mentor and RE should meet to check all the required documents from above. Together they should review and sign the Collaborative Log [ Click here ]. Once finished this document must be submitted to the Program Coordinator before the completion status is updated for the year in CORE.
