STOMP Out Bullying, the leading national anti-bullying and cyberbullying prevention organization for kids and teens created Blue Shirt Day® World Day of Bullying Prevention™ to signify the importance of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. Blue Shirt Day is a time when we ask everyone to wear a BLUE UNIFORM SHIRT and join us in solidarity to stop bullying and cyberbullying on the first Monday of each October. Drive awareness of anti-bullying programs and STOMP Out Bullying around the world!
Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness campaign. Today, millions of people celebrate.
Red Ribbon Week started after the death of Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who in 1985 was brutally murdered by drug traffickers he was investigating in Mexico. After his death, people wanted to honor his sacrifice. Local celebrations began in California – where Camarena grew up – in 1985, and in 1988 the National Family Partnership started the first National Red Ribbon Week.
As a tribute to Camarena during the initial local celebrations, high school friend Henry Lozano and Congressman Duncan Hunter, created “Camarena Clubs” and the wearing of a red ribbon to show their oppositions to drugs.
Red Ribbon Week is celebrated October 23-31 of every year.
November 6-10
This year, the Florida State Legislature passed legislation that adds to the existing Holocaust Mandate. The new legislation designates the second week in November as Holocaust Education Week. This week was chosen to commemorate Kristallnacht, also called “Night of Broken Glass”. All school districts will incorporate lessons on the Holocaust as part of public-school instruction. The Holocaust is to be taught as a uniquely important event in modern history, emphasizing the systemic and state-sponsored violence, which distinguish it from other genocides.
