My child is struggling in class. What should I do?
Please always contact your child's teacher to discuss your concerns. Teachers want every child in their classroom to be successful and communication between home and school is a key to student success.
My child's teacher wants to try an intervention. What does this mean?
When a teacher observes that the current instructional technique is not meeting a child's need, they plan for intervention. An intervention is specially designed instruction to address a specific learning need. If an intervention is not successful, a referral to the building's Intervention Assistance Team might be appropriate.
What's an Intervention Assistance Team?
The Intervention Assistance Team (IAT) is a group of professionals who help parents and teachers by providing suggestions and strategies that will assist students in the learning process.
What does a school psychologist do?
A school psychologist has special training to assist with determining specific strategies and supports that help students learn. A psychologist works as a member of a team of educational professionals (including teachers and principals) to help children both behaviorally and academically.
