Study Tips

Study Tips for Adult Learners

  1. Use Appropriate Study Materials: Utilize videos, your notes, class recordings, study groups/ buddies, tutors, your family or other resources to better learn the information. ONLY use the resources that help YOU to learn the information. If you need resources or feel overwhelmed with the information, please contact your teacher.

  2. Stay Organized and Work On Time Management: Break your school work into individual components and set a schedule for each week that includes class reading requirements, homework, assignments and review. Set a routine and keep a consistent schedule each week to help you maintain your focus. If you are a morning person, do your assignments in the morning. If not, find a time when you are most focused.

  3. Remove any Distractions: DO NOT try to multi-task. Turn off your phone and get away from any distractions.

  4. Take Notes and Review: Take good notes and review your notes before each class. Highlight and write notes on your assignments or textbooks to help you remember the material.

  5. Don't Procrastinate: Procrastination can lead to stress and prevent you from doing your best. Breakdown each assignment by steps and complete a little each day to ensure you meet the deadlines.

  6. Communicate: Do not be afraid to communicate to your teacher or Counselor if you need help. They may be able to provide tips and accommodation to help you move forward.

  7. Aware the school of any challenges: If you have a disability or any barrier that is affecting your academics, please feel free to share with our Counselor. We are here to assist you and make sure you succeed in accomplishing your goals.

  8. Take breaks: It is important to take breaks! You are more likely to forget things when you are tired.

  9. Be patient and stay motivated: School is not easy. If you are struggling, keep trying and remember why you have decided to continue your education.
