Students in grades 3-5 took part in the MAP (Measurement of Academic Progress) test for Mathematics and participated in the running record reading assessment (GRL/F&P) for ELA.

How does it work? MAP Growth is a computer-adaptive test. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. Why did my child take the MAP Growth? MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring Achievement and Growth. Teachers can use your student’s score information to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students.

What is a RIT score? The overall score for a subject based on a Rasch Unit (RIT) scale that indicates how your child performed in a subject. https://rb.gy/u0jykv

What is a running record or Guided Reading Level (GRL/F&P)? Running records are used to collect information on young readers. A running record captures both how well a student reads (the number of words they read correctly) and their reading behaviors (what they say and do as they read).

How does it work? Proficient readers use what is happening in the text (meaning), knowledge of language and grammar (structural), and visual cues (words and word parts) to read. Beginning readers are learning how to do this, so running records provide a way to observe how they are approaching text.

Why did my child participate in the running record? Running Records allow teachers to assess reading behavior as students read from developmentally appropriate texts. They are used most often at the earlier stages of reading to monitor reading behavior and progress.

What is a GRL/F&P score? An alphabetical score from A to Z, with level A representing the lowest level and level Z the highest. This allows the teacher to work closely with each student to help them become better readers by introducing increasingly challenging books while meeting the varying instructional needs of each child in the room.

Locating your student's scores

To access the results of your student’s assessment, log into your PowerSchool account at ps.tusd.org from a web browser. This function is not available in the PowerSchool mobile app.

Once logged in, on the top left hand corner choose the button named ‘TUSD Resources’ then scroll down the page choose ‘Test Results’ from the list of options. You will then be presented with a list of your student’s scores separated by assessment type.

After you have located your student's scores via PowerSchool, you may compare them using the chart above.
For example, a 4th-grade student who garnered an achievement level of 'Met' scored an 'S' on their ELA assessment meaning they accomplished their grade-level expectations.

After you have located your student's scores via PowerSchool, you may compare them using the chart above.
For example, a 4th-grade student who scored a '212' on their Math assessment reached an achievement level of 'Nearly Met' meaning they were close to accomplishing their grade-level expectations.
