School counselors provide classroom lessons, small groups, and individual support to help students develop the skills needed for academic success, including setting goals, managing time, monitoring progress, and making informed decisions about their future. Students learn how their academic choices connect to future college, career, and life opportunities.

School counselors work with students to review academic progress, celebrate successes, identify areas for growth, and provide support when needed. Eighth-grade students work closely with their school counselor to create and update a personal education plan of study (four-year plan) that connects their interests, goals, and future career pathways.

Classroom, small-group, and individual lessons are designed to equip students with the knowledge, attitudes, and interpersonal skills needed to become responsible citizens, productive workers, and successful lifelong learners. Through these learning opportunities, students develop self-awareness, respect for themselves and others, decision-making skills, goal-setting strategies, action planning skills, and healthy coping strategies to support success in school, careers, and life.

Students participate in activities and lessons that introduce them to the various career domains and help students acquire the skills they need to investigate the world of work, utilizing specific strategies that will help students achieve future academic and career goals with success and satisfaction. Lessons and activities are designed to help students explore careers, identify their own interests and aptitudes, develop workplace skills, and create detailed, personalized plans that prepare them for their chosen careers and future career options.
