Hello I'm Mrs. Winters
Ever child deserves a champion, an adult that will never give up on them and motivates them to do their best. I am that champion that will mold champions, who will build other champions.
You are braver than you believe, stronger then you seem and smarter than you think. - A.A.Miline
The mission of the Skyland Elementary School Counseling Department is to provide all students equitable access to a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate school counseling program. Students will focus on their academic, career, and social/emotional growth in order to promote their overall well-being. The school counselor will serve as a leader and advocate for the needs of each and every student to be met so that they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to become successful lifelong learners. Through collaboration with school stakeholders, the school counselor will ensure all students will be prepared to utilize their strengths and talents to achieve excellence as productive community members.
I am so excited to start my 3rd year at Skyland Elementary School. This will be my 10th year in education. I am passionate about social-emotional learning and access to mental health supports for all students. I love teaching counseling lessons, conducting small groups, and meeting with students one-on-one.
I received my bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education form Stillman College and M.Ed. in School Counseling from the University of West Alabama. I taught third grade for one year and kindergarten for 6 years.
My role is to provide a comprehensive program that meets the academic, personal-social, and career needs of all students. I provide individual counseling, group counseling, and classroom SEL lessons. I will work confidentially with students and inform stakeholders of critical information on a "need to know" basis. I will also implement effective interventions for students.
