Northridge Miracle (or any Dance Marathon organization across the country) is a year-long, student-led philanthropy that raises money and awareness for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Specifically, NM raises money, in partnership with the University of Alabama Miracle, to benefit Children’s of Alabama Hospital. Northridge Miracle (NM) is a growing philanthropic organization at Northridge High School that works in partnership with the University of Alabama Miracle (https://www.uadm.org/). Our organization’s mission and goal is simple: raise funds for the kids treated at Children’s of Alabama Hospital (CoA), the state’s only free-standing children's hospital, located in Birmingham. We do this by raising awareness about pediatric illness and injuries, hosting events throughout the year, and engaging the community in our cause!
Our inaugural year was 2019-2020 in which we raised $17, 289.57. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we were unable to have a mini-thon in 2020-2021. We were back in action during the 2021-2022 year and were able to raise $18,209.75, and in 2023-2023 continued to grow and raised $30,000!! For the 2023-2024 year, we more than doubled our fundraising from the previous year and raised $61,239.17!!
According to the U.S. Census, 4.3 million children under the age of 19 did not have health insurance coverage in 2018 and another 37 million rely on Medicaid, which contributes to a large portion of uncompensated care. In 2019, CMN Hospitals raised more than $444 million including nearly $81 million benefiting charitable care to support patients in need. About 1 in 20 hospitals is a children’s hospital. As such, CMN Hospitals serve larger geographies than adult hospitals and are faced with an increased burden.
