Day 2- 8/27/15 Welcome to the edge of the continent

After being up for 21 hours yesterday and getting some much needed sleep last night, the ocean was just what we needed today! Oh the restorative power of the ocean!

We drove back over the Columbia River on the 4 mile Astoria-Megler bridge to Washington and followed the Lewis and Clark Trail to Cape Disappointment. The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center is perched on a cliff 200 feet above the mouth of the Columbia River and tells the story of the Corps of Discovery's journey to the Pacific Coast.

The Cape Disappointment Lighthouse is the oldest operating lighthouse on the West Coast.

Additionally the North Head Lighthouse protected mariners from the rough and ever-changing Columbia River Bar in the treacherous area known as the graveyard of the Pacific.

We then drove back across the Columbia river into Oregon and started our drive down the Pacific Coast Highway. Our first stop was at Ecola State Park where we took a walk to an overlook with breathtaking views of the northern Oregon coast and the famous Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach in the distance.

Our next stop was Cannon Beach for a walk on the beach to famous Haystack Rock.

For the last leg of today's journey we continued south on US 101 toward Manzanita(the B&B location), stopping at several overlooks.
