Day 1 - 8/26/15 Travel to Seattle and Astoria

We had our alarm set for 2:45 a.m. to be ready for our 3:45 ride to the airport, but since we were awake at 2:30 we got up. The taxi was right on time. Our first flight to JFK was on time and uneventful. Our second flight pulled away from the gate a little early, but then had to return to a different gate to let a sick passenger go back into the terminal! We ended up leaving JFK an hour late.

The flight to Seattle was smooth and uneventful and we arrived about 1 hour later than expected. After a taxi ride to the Hertz rental pickup and a 3 hour drive, we finally arrived in Astoria, Oregon around 6:30 Pacific time. Astoria is a picturesque town on the Columbia River surrounded by forests and mountains. It is th oldest US settlement west of the Rocky Mountains. Our hotel is literally right under the Astoria bridge.

We are very tired this evening so it's early to bed for us. We did manage to take a short walk and get a few pictures of the Astoria Bridge which crosses the Columbia River.
