Design a Controlled Experiment

Preview these video examples of controlled experiments so you have an idea of what I expect.

Here is a Student's Example

  • What is the most accurate way to kick a soccer ball?

  • "Accuracy" is the number of goals made in 15 shots.

  • A soccer net, a soccer ball, and my right foot.

  • There are no safety concerns that I need to be aware of.

  • The control group is kicking with my toe.

  • The experimental group is kicking with the side of my foot.

  • The independent variable is "soccer kicking technique."

  • The dependent is "accuracy."

  • The same ball, same foot, same day, same time, same net, same person kicking it, same distance.

  • Kicking the ball with the side of my foot was more accurate (14/15) than kicking with my toe (11/15).

  • I will publish my work and results through video.

  1. After thinking about what you want to measure or test, fill out this EXTRA-CREDIT FORM. I have an example experiment on the form. Do not use my example as your experiment.

  2. Wait for my feedback about your form. E-mail me if I don't get back to you right away.

  3. Conduct your Experiment

  4. Publish your results.

  5. I need to see your published results so please share that with me. It can be a video, document, slideshow, or any other media where I can see how you conducted your experiment, in case I want to do the experiment as well and verify your results.
