Introduction and Historical Perspective
Tung Ling Bible College was first established in Singapore in 1978 and since then has been successfully training Christians from all denominations and all walks of life. Tung Ling’s aim is to be as a mountain in the East where men and women can be prepared for ministry by God as instruments for the building of His house from which He would receive pleasure and glory.
Tung Ling is a School of the Spirit and is essentially charismatic in nature. It is inter-denominational in character and maintains a strong emphasis on the Word of God and the present working of the Holy Spirit.
In March 1993, an extension centre was set up in Malaysia to be better able to serve the Malaysian Churches. It is now registered as Tung Ling Seminary (TLS).
How our Diploma/Bachelor of Ministry Program works?
We offer Diploma of Ministry (code: DOM) and Bachelor of Ministry (code: BOM) courses following the unique and flexible structure of our Pastoral Interns Program. The courses are a combination of lectures, assignments and practical work. To gain credits, the students must complete the following:-
Attend lectures, sit and pass an examination for that module.
Complete assignments based on the required reading textbook and elective texts.
Complete practicum supervised by a mentor
Modules offered under DOM/BOM are carefully selected to help the student gain a deeper knowledge of the Word of God as well as develop practical skills that will equip them for life and ministry. The lecturers are experts in their respective field of study with years of experience to back their credentials.
When a DOM student accumulates sufficient credits by completing these modules with practicum, they will be awarded with the Diploma of Ministry. A BOM student is also required to do a 20,000 thesis paper besides meeting the credits requirements, before being awarded with the Bachelor of Ministry.
This program is suitable for, but not limited to, students who have completed the Certificate of Ministry from the School of Ministry program offered by Tung Ling Seminary every year. Candidates with equivalent certificate requirements can also apply and be considered for credit transfers.
DOM/BOM is uniquely tailored to allow full-time workers in ministry to attend the course without interfering with their job functions. For example, a pastor from another town can attend the course while still pastoring his church in his own town.
DOM/BOM is also suitable for people holding secular jobs as they can attend the 'night classes' for 4 weeks per year. They can also take one to two weeks leave per year to attend the 'day classes.'
This program is flexible enough to suit your needs.
NEW! → From 2023, we are introducing specialized programs, starting with Diploma of Ministry in Social Work (code: DOM-SW). This is an extension of the Diploma of Ministry program designed to prepare students with the knowledge, ethical values, and skills necessary for culturally sensitive social work practice within a biblical framework. Students will learn how to address contemporary social care issues facing the community, and society at large; with particular emphasis on developing helping skills and intervention techniques that are both word-based and practical. This program follows the structure of the standard Diploma of Ministry program, however 4 core and 2 elective modules are solely focused on Social Work.
Philosophy & Methodology
It is our belief that the best method of training and releasing men and women into the harvest field is to combine sound theological teaching with "on the job" training in an environment where they are mentored simultaneously. Mentoring and character building are emphasized in this course.
It is also a prerequisite that a suitable mentor be identified, preferably from the same Church, before the candidate is accepted.
At Tung Ling…..
We mentor, we take time to share life experiences, one on one and not just impart knowledge
We recognize the importance of real life ministry, hands-on training, and the development of people as effective leaders within their own distinct communities. We appreciate the individual’s unique gifts and help each student cultivate such to the fullest.
We do more than just train leaders for Sunday morning services. We equip them for the challenges of Monday through Saturday.
