Reading Challenge

What is the Tukwila Schools Global Reading Challenge?

This citywide program started as a collaborative effort between The Seattle Public Library and Seattle Public Schools. We have adapted a version of this program for our Tukwila students to be able to participate. Students form teams of 4-6 and read 5 books, then take part in a trivia competition, answering questions about the books. The competition determines the winning team for Tukwila School district.

What is the commitment for students?

Participating students will be assigned to a team of up to 6, with varying reading abilities. The team decides if they will all read every book, or become experts on one or two titles. The team members come together to create an effective strategy for competition. It is important not to drop out, because your team needs you. Most of the reading will need to be done outside of school hours.

What is the timeline?

Our next reading challenge will take place in the spring of 2024. The Thorndyke students who participated last year did a wonderful job and came in 1st place in the district competition! Stay tuned for more information!
