🏙️🌿 SMUXWELL — Smart City & Urban Experience for Well‑Being
Transforming AI-powered and IoT-connected smart environments and -cities into engines of citizen well-being, sustainable societies, and business impact — redefining customer–brand relationships.
❓🤖🏙️🌿🌍 What is SMUXWELL  ?
SMUXWELL – Smart Urban Experience for Well-Being is an international corporate chair that transforms smart cities, mobility, and connected environments into engines of citizen well-being and business value.
We conduct pioneering research on user acceptance and appropriation of emerging AI-based samrt city technologies, ensuring that innovation is not only adopted but truly integrated into people’s lives.Â
Our scope covers the full spectrum of smart environments: smart cities and homes, autonomous transport (cars, shuttles, delivery drones), conversational AI (chatbots), social robots, brain–machine interfaces (e.g. Neuralink), and generative AI as recommender systems in retail and connected living.
Through unique living labs (experimental smart apartment, autonomous driving simulator, immersive retail) to live real-world user experiences, SMUXWELL combines applied research, cutting-edge innovation, and top international talent (Europe, China, Thailand, Germany).
At SMUXWELL, we study how smart city technologies — from autonomous vehicles and drones to social robots, brain–machine interfaces, and AI-driven personalization — can transform customer–brand relationships. These innovations strengthen CRM by enabling deeper personalization, less or more automated human-AI interactions, and new forms of value co-creation. Yet, they also raise challenges linked to privacy loss, hyper-personalization, and extensive big data collection. We also address the ethical dimensions of digital transformation — from privacy protection to the human side of AI relationships — as well as issues of sustainability. Our approach is fully aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-Being), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities & Communities), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption & Production).
Our research explores how these technologies and dynamics influence customer loyalty and retention, while placing particular emphasis on the crucial drivers of trust and user well-being in long-term brand relationships.
