Training for Translators Videos
Welcome!
Training new teams of national Bible translators is critical in order to provide God's Word in the heart language of every tribe and every nation. The Training for Translators videos provide training on good translation procedures, principles, and practice for producing a high-quality translation of the Scriptures.
These video materials for the first 3-week Translator Training workshop were produced by Stephen Payne, a senior Translation Consultant with Seed Company. Steve has been running Translation Workshops now for 18 years, and has trained new teams of national Bible translators in over 35 languages.
You can access the Training for Translators videos here: VIDEOS
Potential Audiences
The primary audience for the training videos is multiple teams of new national translators in a workshop setting. In addition, the video training could be useful to:
Individual teams of new MTT’s on their own (many who start projects with little or no training at all)
New translators who join a team after the rest of the team is already trained; or experienced translators who want a review
CiT's as part of their training, or to remind them of translation principles
Consultants who want a team they are checking with to revisit a certain area of training; or consultants who want to lead a translation workshop
New Field Project Managers or administrators who come on board and don’t have a background in translation
Partner organizations who don’t have a background in Bible translation
Important Info
The first 3-week Training for Translators workshop provides initial translator training and prepares new teams of national translators to start independently translating the Scriptures in their languages.
The training is practical rather than theoretical, with many examples and exercises. It uses simple language appropriate for 2nd language speakers of English.
For audiences who don’t know English, the presentations can be translated orally on the spot using the spacebar to pause and restart the videos.
You are free to modify the training videos to fit your local situation (for instance adding additional exercises or local examples). To do this, download the PowerPoint files from which the videos were made, modify them, and then export a new video. The first video in the series, "Introduction to the Videos" explains how to do this. You can access the original PowerPoint files here: MODIFYING PRESENTATIONS . Training videos can be viewed via projector in a workshop setting, or on computers, tablets or even phones for individual viewing.
For those not in a workshop setting, they can easily watch the videos one hour/day and finish all of them in about three weeks.
The Workshop Schedule
Although the Translator Training can be done individually, it is best done in a workshop setting where the lessons taught are reinforced by working in teams on translating a specific portion of Scripture.
The videos follow a workshop schedule that can be downloaded here: WORKSHOP SCHEDULE. A list of the 39 videos in the course along with the teaching times and file sizes can be downloaded here: LIST OF VIDEOS.
