I use positive words and actions to encourage appropriate behavior in each student. Appropriate classroom behaviors are identified with a motivating behavior system. We use good behavior tickets called Gotcha Tickets. A Gotcha Ticket is placed into a bucket when students are displaying the appropriate behaviors. Each student has the opportunity to acquire tickets before a weekly drawing. When a student’s ticket is chosen from the bucket then the student is rewarded with a prize.
We also use the Ready to Learn Chart. This is a visual chart that works on individual and group behaviors. Every student begins on Ready to Learn and stays there or moves down to the Think About It section of the chart. The student returns to Ready to Learn as the behavior improves.
If there are inappropriate behaviors, then a conference with the teacher, loss of recess time, parent phone calls, parent e-mails, or parent/teacher meetings may be requested.
