Spelling Procedures:
Monday-pretest over Into Reading/UFLI spelling words (just the words)
Tuesday-teacher chosen activity usually having something to do with the phonemics/phonics rule all words. I will do some together on the board for students to be able to look back at for the rest of their words. They should turn this into the spelling tray.
Wednesday-student chosen activity. They only have to do the words they missed on the pretest. They should staple this activity to the pretest and turn in to the spelling tray. If they got all of their words right, they just need to turn in their pretest to the spelling tray and do not need to do a choice activity. Options are listed on the spelling rubric.
Thursday-We will play a spelling game called Sparkle, if we have time. (This would be a good night to study at home if able)
Friday-Test. Students will write dictated sentences that I break down. They will be graded on the rubric listed below. Students with a list of 10 words, will have 6 spelling words within the sentences. Students with a list of 20 words, will have 9-11 spelling words within the sentences.
Vocab Procedures:
Vocab words are based on prefixes/suffixes or Greek and Latin roots to help give students tools to recognize other words they might not recognize just by knowing these features of the word.
Monday-I will introduce the 8 vocab words based on the Greek/Latin root. We will write the definitions together. I will copy the definitions for students and post to classroom.
Tuesday-Students will write a sentence using each vocab word. This is due Wednesday mornings unless otherwise noted.
Wednesday-Students will write the Greek/Latin root, the definition of the root, the word, the definition of the word in their own words, illustrate the vocab word, and write a synonym and antonym. This is due Thursday mornings unless otherwise noted.
Thursday-students will play a review game on their own-this can also be played at home if students have access to a computer at home.
Friday-Test that will consist of matching definitions/drag and drop correct word in the sentence-similar things to what they will see on ILEARN.
