Klondike Nuggets stay golden by remembering the golden rules:
Students can earn Ellis Cash ($1, $5, $10, $20 denominations) by following expectations, going above and beyond expectations, earning compliments from other teachers, helping each other, etc. Students can redeem their cash in our class store at the end of every month. Students can also earn whole class rewards that the class will vote on.
We use a few modes of helping us become the best people that we can be.
Growth mindset- I don't need you to be perfect. I need you to try to be better in one thing today than you were yesterday.
Zones of regulation-We use inside out characters to help us identify which zone we're in. Identifying how we're feeling is the first step to getting back to a regulated brain and ready to learn (we discuss strategies on how to get there).
Logical Consequences-My goal as an educator is to team with parents, students, and admin to prepare students to be productive, well rounded, and balanced citizens. I try my best as much as possible to give logical consequences if there is an issue that arises. As a class we will brainstorm possible issues that could come up and consequences that fit that issue. IE: If Bobby spills Jimmy's water on accident, he will clean it up; If Jimmy destroys his paintbrush, he won't be able to use it to paint. Loss of privileges may occur.
Reflection/Discussion with the Teacher/Restorative Practices-In more severe situations or persistent situations, students will be asked to reflect on their thoughts, actions, and feelings about the behavior/issue that occurred. I will guide students through a reflection think sheet. When the student has completed it, we will discuss what they reflected on and how to prevent it from happening again. The student will sign the think sheet, I will sign the think sheet, and it will be sent home for parents to sign the thinksheet. It should be returned to school the following day. The goal is for students to learn from mistakes and grow as people. If needed, students may have a restorative conversation to make the situation right.
