Homework

Please allow about 30 minutes for homework each day. Daily homework might include reading, math, math facts, vocabulary/spelling practice. Additional homework assignments will be written in the assignment journal as needed. The assignment journal needs to be returned to school daily along with the Daily folder.

Reading

Your child should be reading at least 20 minutes each night. Reading club books are counted toward the reading time. Your child will bring home a book club book when he/she has an assignment in the book. This will be in a reading pouch. Your child will read the assigned pages and then write notes, thoughts, and/or questions on sticky notes for discussion in book club. You may discuss the pages with your child and "buzz" about the events that happened in the chapters. Please return the reading pouch with the book daily.

Accelerated Reader

Use the "Resources" tab for Accelerated Reader to look up your favorite book and the reading range. It is helpful if your child is reading a book from home, if you have previously looked up the quiz number. We will be taking quizzes daily in the classroom. Your child's reading goal will be between 10-20 points for each nine week period.

Vocabulary/Spelling

Vocabulary tests will be given on every other Thursday on opposite weeks. Students will study the words and the definitions, and study using each word in a sentence. Every week, students that need work on foundational spelling patterns, will have a 10 word spelling list, and have less vocabulary words.

Math

Please practice math facts with addition, subtraction, and multiplication each night for at least 10 minutes on IXL or I-Ready. See "Resources" for a link to IXL and I-Ready.
