Hi!
My name is Michael Love and I am the Physical Education teacher at Dayton Elementary School and Hershey Elementary School. I am thrilled to be a part of the Tippecanoe School Corporation family. In addition to my teaching job, I am also a volunteer coach for the Harrison High School soccer team and also the head varsity assistant/ head JV coach for the Lafayette Jefferson Broncho's men's, basketball team .
I grew up in Elkhart, Indiana, and knew from a very young age that teaching and coaching was the job for me. My parents and my younger sisters have always been incredibly supportive, and they are thrilled that I get to work in your corporation, too! Additionally, my fiance was a high school English teacher and is now the learning specialist for Purdue Athletics, so I have lots of support at home!
I graduated from Purdue University in 2013 with a degree in K-12 Physical Education. Additionally, I have received additional licensure in strength and conditioning at the collegiate level. I have a true passion for physical fitness and living a healthy life style, and I hope to share my passion with your students.
I believe in creating a classroom environment where students understand their potential and work their hardest to master the material and skills that they need to lead healthy and active lifestyles. I want my students to take part in interesting and meaningful activities that students can participate in now and in the future. I want to not only encourage my students, but have my students be an encouragement to others while we work together to create healthy minds that have positive attitudes and energy to succeed in all aspects of their lives.
I want my students to look forward to coming to class each week, and I want them to leave feeling like they have accomplished a lot. I plan on using the BEST grading scale each week, and I have discussed my expectations with my students.
B = Behavior 3.5 points
E = Effort 3.5 points
S = Skill 2 points
T = Tennis Shoes 1 point
Each day your student has P.E. class, he or she will be able to earn ten points. Points will be deducted if your student is not putting forth effort, does not have proper shoes, if your student is not behaving, and lastly, if they struggle to accomplish certain skills that align with the state standards. I am extremely lenient on if they have the correct shoes or not. I would certainly like it if your child has tennis shoes for gym class, however I would rather have my students moving and participating in boots instead of sitting out because of the wrong shoes.
Behavior Policy:
If a student chooses to act out and or not follow classroom rules ect, the following actions will take place....
Verbal warning
The student will walk and run laps for a designated time
If the disruption still occurs, the student will sit out against the wall for a designated time
If a student still refuses to follow the rules, they will be sent to the office
It is important for me to leave the lines of communication open with you. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach me by email at mtlove@tsc.k12.in.us.
I look forward to working with and getting to know your student this school year!
Best,
Michael Love
