***Third grade students are required to write their assignments in their assignment book on a daily basis. Parents should consult the assignment book nightly to determine the exact daily homework assignments. Below is a general guideline of the structure for the typical weekly classroom routine.
Reading:
Practice vocabulary words and meanings from each unit as needed.
Read nightly for Accelerated Reader (15 min./night 1st nine weeks, 20 min./night 2nd nine weeks, 25 min./night 3rd nine weeks, 30 min./night 4th nine weeks).
Additional homework may need to be completed on any assignments not finished in class on those days.
Spelling:
New spelling lists are given on Mondays and students should study their words at home so they are prepared for the test given each Friday.
Weekly spelling practice tests are assigned to be done at home with an adult and should be returned to school by Friday of each week with a parent signature at the top of the paper.
Additional homework may need to be completed on any assignments not finished in class on those days.
Math:
New skills will be learned each day, and a small amount of daily homework will be sent home Monday through Thursday nights to provide additional practice on the skill that was learned that day.
Students will need to practice flashcards for timed tests-first semester students should focus on addition and subtraction facts and second semester students should focus primarily on memorizing multiplication and division facts, with occasional review over addition and subtraction facts.
Social Studies, Science, and Health:
Specific nightly homework is not assigned, but students may need to read, review, or study material in the text or finish an assignment that was not completed during the school day.
