Classroom Management Plan

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

I. Our classroom rules are:

1. Follow directions quickly.

2. Raise your hand for permission to speak.

3. Raise your hand for permission to get out of your seat.

4. Make smart choices.

5. Keep your dear learning community strong!

Diamond Rule: Keep your eyes on the target.

II. Reteach, retry, redirect

Children do not come preprogrammed for every situation. Some students are great at making positive choices at all times, but even the best may slip occasionally. Behavior is a huge factor in any classroom. I work very hard to set up routines and structures to eliminate possible areas of concern. However, should a time come that a child exhibits various behaviors, there are numerous strategies I may choose to correct the issue. NOTE: I do not use DOJO points or a clip chart.

  1. Reteach - Simply reteach the expectation

  2. Retry - Have the student try the procedure again

  3. Redirect - Call for the student’s attention or modify the activity

  4. Reward - Praise or focus on a positive behavior being exhibited by others

  5. Remind - Verbal reminder of current expectations

  6. Relocate - Move seats, quiet area, or limited area for work or play

  7. Remove - Should behavior warrant, a student may miss out on an opportunity so others are able to focus or continue uninterrupted

RE-simply means AGAIN. Students need time to learn expectations and to be successful. After a few weeks in class your child should be adjusting to being kind, responsible, respectful, and safe. If not, further strategies may be implemented. Or should a child in early days do something that puts themselves or others at risk they will receive additional behavioral support.

INDIVIDUAL SYSTEM

I use a classroom management system called Super Improvers. Students may earn stars to level up throughout the year. Each time they level up, they will receive a certificate to acknowledge this.

DISCIPLINE

Should a student have a difficult day and their behavior continues to be an issue after reminders and such, they may be asked to see me at recess. I will not typically issue laps, but choose to conference with students about behavior during recess. If more than one student has been asked to conference with me, I will ask those students to pick a spot away from others in a designated area to stand. I will begin with the least infraction to the worst. Each student will be asked what happened that was not a good choice. They will be asked which of the 4 school rules were broken (Practice Kindness, Accept Responsibility, Work and Play Safely, and Show Respect). They will be asked what they can do better next time or possibly, depending on the issue, how they can make the situation better right now. Should behavior become a frequent issue and I have met with the student 3 times or more for similar behavior, I may request a parent/guardian conference via phone or in person.

FURTHER DISCIPLINE

Should a student not show prompt behavior correction following contact home, and issues continue, I will reach out to Mrs. Fields or Mr. Minogue for additional support or recommendations.

Our goal is to make the learning environment a safe, comfortable, and calm place for students to work and grow. Your support at home matters. Please encourage positive behavior and support us as we try to meet the needs of your child and others. Please be understanding that a peer of your child’s may require daily modifications that your child may not be privy to. I promise we are working to help all students be successful. If you are concerned about another child in the class, please contact me promptly.
