Climate and Community

Climate

Our goal is to design a classroom that is welcoming and comfortable for our students. We have set up our classrooms with kids in mind, and it is always a work in progress. We will utilize flexible seating and learning clubs, with other designated areas for small and large group instruction. We strive to create a climate that is stress free, safe, and sensitive to the individual needs of each student. Parents and other family members, Purdue and Harrison students, as well as other community volunteers are all a part of our classroom community and contribute to our climate!

Community

Each day, we will work to build a strong sense of community within our classroom. Community circles, daily check-ins, sharing, brain breaks, and mindfulness activities are all a part of our community building strategy. We think of our classroom as a family. We are respectful and kind, generous and helpful. We are there to pick each other up when we’re down and celebrate each other’s successes. Strong, positive relationships are the foundation of meaningful learning. It is important that we develop a connection with each of our students and help them build relationships with their classmates.
