Organization
One of our goals this year is to help students build strong organizational skills and prepare for middle school. We will use a classroom binder and yellow folder to help students stay organized and keep track of their work.
Classroom Binder
Assignment notebook to record homework and important reminders
Subject folders to organize classwork and assignments
Students will be encouraged to keep their binders neat and organized throughout the year
Yellow Folder
Used to bring home graded work and important papers
Please check the folder at the end of each week and remove any papers
This will help students stay organized and prevent papers from piling up
Independent Reading
Instead of using Accelerated Reader (AR), students will participate in independent reading every week.
Students will have time to Read to Self Monday through Thursday.
On Thursday or Friday, I will meet with each student for a one-on-one reading conference to talk about their book and check their understanding.
Students will also keep a record of the books they read throughout the year to help build strong reading habits.
Root Words & Affixes
Instead of traditional spelling lists, we will focus on learning 1–2 root words or affixes each week to strengthen vocabulary and reading skills.
Students will learn the meaning of each root or affix and practice using words that contain it throughout the week.
At the end of the week, students will complete a short quiz to show what they have learned.
