On the chalkboard is a colorful chart with student magnets.
Every morning students start on green “ready to learn.”
If a student doing something great like helping a friend, picking up a piece of trash, sitting quietly, following directions, etc. they might be asked to “slide up” to the next color. Students can slide up more than once throughout the day. The highest they can get to is “outstanding.”
If a student is not performing at his or her best, and needs reminders to follow rules then he or she will “slide down” to the next color. If he or she continues making poor choices they will “slide down” again. The lowest they can slide to is red, “parent contact.” If you have a student slide down, but show that he or she can do better than they can “slide up” to the next color. If a student’s magnet is on orange, “consequence” at the end of the day, then he or she will have a consequence for the behavior the next day.
Students need to remember that their magnets can move up and down throughout the day.
Any time your child comes home with a chart that is at ready to learn or higher, that is a good day! If students makes it to Outstanding by the end of the day, they will earn a certificate to take home and share with their family.
Kindergarten is a time where students are learning proper school behavior. Talk to your child if he/she comes home with a behavior chart that is below ready to learn. Ask your child what happened. Talk to your child about what he/she can do next time that would be a better choice.
