I have five classroom rules.
Mouth is quiet
Eyes are looking
Hands and feet to myself
Ears are listening
Raise Your hand
I use positive reinforcement to reward hard work and following procedures. If students complete their work in the resource room and follow procedures, they will have the opportunity to have some break time on Fridays.
If a student is not following procedures, I will always communicate with their classroom teacher. I also will have a one on one conference with the student to understand why they are not following procedures. If the student continues to follow procedures, I will have then take a three minute break in the cool down area in my room. If a student continues to need prompts to follow rules, a office referral . If a student has a behavior plan, this will be followed in place of the procedures above.
I am very conscious of sensory needs and will consider this when a student is struggling with following procedures. I also incorporate brain breaks and movement into my instruction based on the needs of my group.
