Students will receive letter grades for the subjects of reading, grammar, spelling (foundations), writing, math, science and social studies this year. Work coming home that has been graded will show the correct points students received out of the total points as a fraction. Other work in class which we have just checked together will not have a fraction on it and will not be included in your child’s report card grade. If a student earns a grade lower than a 50% on work in class or quizzes/tests, the grade will be recorded no lower than 50%. If a child refuses to complete an assignment, it will be entered in the gradebook as 0%. The grading scale for the TSC is shown below.
Students will not have written homework each night in my class as I feel that they should be able to spend time with their families once getting home each evening. However, I highly recommend that students study their spelling words for a few minutes each night for their weekly test, read for at least 20 minutes each evening as this helps them become better readers and practice their multiplication facts. If a student is struggling in an area, I will be in contact with you and may send additional work home for practice. Also, students may have additional homework that is sent home if they fall behind on their work in class and are not using their time wisely. If this happens, I will contact you before this work is sent home.
