Music Grading Policy
In music, students are largely graded on participation in addition to periodic evaluations of learned skills. These skills include an age-appropriate level of proficiency in the elements of music: melodic and rhythmic understanding, form, expression, timbre and texture.
In our thirty minute weekly time, we engage in a variety of musical activities designed around these four principles:
Connect * Listen * Perform * Create
Participation is 75% of the student’s semester grade and is based on these expectations:
Make Good Choices
Use Kind Words
Show Respect
Involve Yourself
Care for Our Room and Instruments
The other 25% of the semester grade comes from evaluations based on the Indiana Standards for Music Education. Assessments may be written, aural, or performance-based. Mastery or appropriate progress will be the criteria used for assessment. Please see the link below for a list of standards by grade level.
