About Me

I am a native of Tennessee , and I attended Lispcomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, where I met my husband, Josh, and earned a B.S. in Elementary Education.  I have taught every grade from 1st to 8th, but twenty-two of my thirty years of teaching have been in the self-contained High Ability 4th and 5th grade classroom here at Mayflower.

As the Elementary School Teacher Advocate for the Purdue Center for Economic Education, I regularly present the mini-economy and classroom business enterprise concepts to other schools looking to improve their economic instruction.  I have an endorsement in Gifted and Talented Education from Purdue University, and I am a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT).

I received the regional Olin W. Davis Award for Exemplary Teaching of Economics in 2009 and again in 2013 and was named a 2011 Golden Apple Teacher by the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce.  In 2016 I was awarded the John Morton Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Economics from the Council for Economic Education.  (That's what I'm holding in the picture to the left!)

I have generously been given numerous grants from the Indiana Department of Education, the Public Schools Foundation of Tippecanoe County, the Indiana Council for Economic Education, and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

With my husband, Josh, and our two children, Kinley (22) and Knox (17), I have worked on eleven summer mission projects to Japan, Thailand, Fiji, Malaysia, and Brazil.
