First and foremost, your child's value as a person is NOT based on the grades they receive at school! My top priority as your child's educator is to teach them to be a kind, generous, and empathetic human, who enjoys being curious and learning new things! We will focus on individual goal setting, growth, and putting forth their best effort! The assignments, projects, and tests that I take grades on will be items that reflect the independence they've gained in a skill that has been thoroughly taught and practiced! Grades can be checked in PowerSchool, and progress reports will come home every 9 weeks. There will be parent-teacher conferences occurring in October and March, however, please email, call, or set up a meeting with me anytime to discuss any questions or concerns you may have!

Students will have a binder that goes to and from school each day. This binder has a place for papers that can stay at home and a place for papers that need to be returned. It should be checked daily by an adult. It is also a good place for any needed communication, referencing reading goals, and practicing math facts and spelling.
I feel passionate that after school hours, students should have time to be a kid! They should have time to play, imagine, do extracurricular activities, be with their family, and read for pleasure! This is why your child will rarely come home with homework. There may be a special project from time to time that requires an at-home component, but mostly we will work hard to complete all our classwork during school hours. I would love for your child to read or be read to for 20 minutes each night (at bedtime is a great time for this). They may also want to spend some time practicing multiplication math facts and their spelling word list each week, but we will work on these things during class also.
