In our classroom we will work together to grow and learn. The following procedures will help us achieve our goals.

In-class work -Students will be expected to complete work assigned to them during the time they are in the classroom. A student choosing to not use the time provided to work may lose out on participating in recess or fun activities. Assignments may also become homework if not worked on during class.
Mistakes -I believe fixing mistakes is one of the best ways to learn and avoid making mistakes in the future. Students may be giving the opportunity to fix mistakes on assignments to receive partial credit. Not all assignments are eligible for this.
K/1 Homework -Students will only be given if the student did not use their time wisely during class or if the student has had a long absence and needs additional time to catch up outside of my time with them. I will contact guardians if this happens. Reading for 20 minutes per night and additional math fluency practice is encouraged but not required for grading.
2-5 Homework -Students may include reading logs, spelling or vocabulary practice, flash cards, worksheets or other items. Assignments and homework are due on Fridays unless otherwise stated on the assignment. The goal of homework is to practice, not to overwhelm. If your student is spending more than 30 minutes on homework, please contact me.
Missing Assignments -A running list of missing assignments is available in the classroom. Students will be reminded to check this list weekly. All assignments are due by the Wednesday before the end of the quarter. Any missing assignments after then will be zeros.
Absent work - Any work your student misses that is expected to be completed will be given to your student on their return. Students have an equivalent number of days to complete the absent work as they were absent (i.e. - if you miss 2 school days, you have 2 school days) before it is considered missing. Absent work can be done during flexible time in class or as homework.
Study Hall - A study hall is available at the end of the school day. Students may utilize the study hall time to work on homework, missing assignments, or general education assignments in a quieter, small group setting. Mrs Bishop or a paraprofessional will be available to help students, but students may need to wait for help
1st-5th - Grades are based on the following scale.
90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
60-69% = D
Below 60% = F
Kindergartners - Students do not receive traditional letter grades. They will be formally assessed each 9 weeks for report card purposes and will get a 1, 2, 3, or 4 based on the above percentages. Skills are evaluated by both assessments and observation.
Who gives grades? - Students who come for direct instruction in reading and math will receive those grades from me. Students who are considered consult or supplemental, will receive their grades from their general education teacher. Powerschool will either say my name or their general education teacher's name next to the subject to indicate who inputs the grades.
Goal Monitoring - Students' IEP goals will be monitored throughout the school year. This information will be sent home each 9 weeks. If a student meets their goal, we will either update it at their next Case Conference Meeting or I will contact you to ask for permission to update it without a meeting.
