In 5th Grade we will have three main units of study. Each day we will have a teacher modeled lesson, a time to share ideas with each other, and then a time to write independently. We will also spend time each day focusing on conventions and grammar skills.

We will be writing an informational reports one specifically will be about the about the American Revolution. We will include various text features, such as maps and timelines.
Argument
We will be writing arguments, one specifically will be to choose either for or against chocolate milk being offered in schools. Students will learn how to use research to make a valid argument.
Science
One of the things that really got me interested in Cole was the Outdoor Education Center. I plan on making this a consistent part of our Science block.
We will also be completing several STEM activities throughout the year.
Social Studies
In Fifth Grade, we will focus on the early part of U.S. History. We will spend a big part of the year learning about the American Revolution, the forming of our democracy, Slavery, and Westward Expansion.
