On May 13, we’ll spread out across St. Louis in small groups for site visits that bring ideal learning to life in classrooms, outdoor spaces, and community farms.
Take a closer look inside one of our esteemed Ideal Learning Head Start Network (ILHSN) members’ programs. Urban Sprouts is a Reggio-inspired early learning community where children, families, and educators co-construct joyful, rigorous learning. A longtime ILHSN partner, Urban Sprouts was recently featured in our "Ideal Learning in Head Start" video, and Founder & Executive Director Ellicia Lanier has been a member of the Trust for Learning board for years. During this visit, you’ll see classrooms in action with children actively engaged in their learning, explore the atelier and outdoor spaces, and hear how the team weaves anti-bias, farm-to-table, and family partnerships into everyday practice.
The Green Center is a nature-classroom and community green space that invites children and adults into hands-on ecological learning. This visit will highlight outdoor classrooms, trails, and gardens that support year-round inquiry, stewardship, and science learning. Participants will explore how partnerships with schools and early childhood programs make nature a daily part of children’s lives.
Rustic Roots Sanctuary is a working farm rooted in food justice, community healing, and regenerative agriculture. On this visit, you’ll walk through gardens, fields, and composting areas while learning how food is grown, harvested, and brought to children’s tables. The team will share how they partner with educators and families to connect farm-to-table practices with nutrition, culture, and curriculum.
City Garden Montessori is a public Montessori school committed to equity, community, and child-centered learning. During this visit, you’ll see Montessori environments in action and hear how the school integrates anti-bias/anti-racist principles, family engagement, and neighborhood partnerships. Staff will share lessons from building a diverse, inclusive learning community in an urban public charter setting.
