Work-Based Learning

Work-Based Learning is a structured component of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) curriculum that integrates classroom instruction with productive, progressive, supervised, work-based “experiences or apprenticeships” (Paid) and “internships” (Unpaid), related to student's career objectives. Content is planned for students through a cooperative arrangement between the school and employer as a component of work-based learning.

This year's Work-Based Learning advisor is Mrs. Amber Benson.

Each student must satisfy the following:

  • 16 years of age;

  • An 11th or 12th grader

  • On track for graduation

  • Possesses the knowledge, skills, behavioral qualities, and abilities required for successful employment;

  • Is physically and mentally capable of performing the essential functions of the desired work-based experience;

  • Has acceptable attendance, grades, and discipline record;

  • Has completed the application;

  • Has provided the name of at least three (3) teachers that know, and are not related to, the student and will complete a recommendation.

Students must successfully complete one-hundred-forty (140) work hours in order to earn one (1) course credit. Fifty percent (50%) of these hours must be worked Monday-Friday.

Professional Internship

Work-based job shadowing opportunities to seniors only in a variety of professional career fields.


Each student must satisfy the following:

  • Locate and secure an internship placement for each semester for a total of 2 internship experiences for the year;

  • Choose a career field (ex. law, insurance, accounting, etc.);

  • Have reliable transportation;

  • Be able to shadow for at least 4 hours per week;

  • Keep a journal of experiences and daily activities;

  • Present an end of semester project to their peers detailing their shadow experience.

Elementary Education Internship

An internship experience for senior students interested in the field of education.


Each student must satisfy the following:

  • Have reliable transportation;

  • Be able to shadow for at least 4 hours per week;

  • Keep a journal of experiences and daily activities;

  • Present an end of semester project to their peers detailing their shadow experience.

Skilled Education Internship

An unpaid internship in some type of skilled trade i.e. welding, plumbing, HVAC, auto repair, auto paint and body, industrial maintenance, masonry, etc. for senior and junior students.


Each student must satisfy the following:

  • Have reliable transportation;

  • Be able to shadow for at least 4 hours per week;

  • Provide evidence of 3 hand on activities learned through a presentation (video, picture, etc.)
