JROTC Academic and Leadership Bowl (JLAB):
The Pacer Battalion JLAB Team is a group of cadets who compete in a national, all-service competition called the JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB). The competition is designed to test cadets' knowledge and leadership skills while also preparing them for higher education.
The JLAB competition has two separate tracks: a Leadership Bowl and an Academic Bowl.
The Leadership Bowl focuses on the JROTC curriculum, leadership principles, and problem-solving scenarios.
Academic Bowl is a high-level trivia event that tests cadets on subjects like math, science, English, and current events, often using questions similar to those found on the SAT and ACT.
The Pacer Battalion Robotics Team is a co-curricular activity that uses robotics to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) skills, teamwork, and leadership among cadets. These teams typically participate in the VEX Robotics Competition (V5RC), which is a widely recognized program that challenges students to design, build, and program innovative robots.
Key aspects of a JROTC Robotics Team include:
STEM Education: Cadets apply academic knowledge to practical challenges, learning about engineering, coding, and mechanical concepts as they build and program their robots.
Leadership and Teamwork: Teams are often cadet-led, providing students with opportunities to develop leadership skills, problem-solve collaboratively, and manage different roles within the team (e.g., builder, programmer, strategist).
The Pacer Battalion Drone Team is a co-curricular activity that uses unmanned aerial systems (UAS) to provide cadets with hands-on experience in STEM fields and to develop their leadership and technical skills.
Key aspects of an Army JROTC Drone Team include:
Curriculum: Cadets learn about drone flight principles, programming, documentation, and communication. They also get hands-on experience with piloting drones and coding autonomous flight paths.
Competitions: Teams participate in national competitions, often in partnership with organizations like the Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation.
Skills Development: Beyond technical skills, cadets develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities. They learn to communicate effectively and document their flight operations, much like professional pilots.
Career Readiness: The drone program is designed to build interest in drone-related career fields and to prepare cadets for future opportunities, including potential pathways in the U.S. Army.
The Pacer Battalion Archery Team is a co-curricular activity that uses archery to teach cadets valuable life skills and increase an appreciation for lifelong fitness activities.
Key aspects of our Archery Team include:
Skill Development: Cadets learn proper archery techniques, focusing on discipline, patience, and concentration.
Teamwork and Leadership: While archery is an individual sport, the JROTC team structure emphasizes collaboration, sportsmanship, and leadership development.
Safety: JROTC instructors who lead these teams must be certified as Basic Archery Instructors (BAI) through NASP, ensuring a strong focus on safety protocols.
Inclusivity: Archery is a sport that is accessible to a wide range of students, regardless of their athletic ability or physical size, making it a popular and inclusive addition to the JROTC program.
